A prisoner has been charged with murdering a fellow inmate at Dartmoor jail.

Police said the 50-year-old, who has not been named, is accused of stabbing Alexander Cusworth, 37, on Thursday.

He is due to appear before Exeter Magistrates' Court on Monday.

Cusworth was pronounced dead at Plymouth's Derriford Hospital, after being flown there for emergency treatment. Police investigations are continuing at the jail.

Devon and Cornwall Police said detectives, including scenes of crime officers, had been called in.

Cusworth, from Teignmouth, Devon, was jailed for eight years last May for attacking his landlord so savagely with a broomstick he spent eight days in a coma.

A Prison Service spokesperson said: "A police investigation is ongoing so it would be inappropriate to comment further at this stage."
