Woman found in Newquay street dies

A 53-year-old woman has died after being found unconscious with a suspected head injury in a Cornwall street.

Officers were called to Mount Wise in the resort town of Newquay just after 06:30 BST.

The woman, from Newquay, was taken by ambulance to the Royal Cornwall Hospital at Treliske where she died.

Forensic teams are at the scene which has been cordoned off and police are treating her death as unexplained.

'Isolated incident'

Insp Dave Meredith, of Devon and Cornwall Police, said: "All we can say is that the woman appears to have an injury to her head and at this time cannot be attributed to an assault.

"She was found near her home address, a multi-occupancy property in the Mount Wise area. She was found near the front of premises."

He issued an appeal for witness who may have seen or heard anything that would have led to the death.

"Part of the investigation is to comprehensively review all CCTV in general area and proximity of incident," he said.

A post-mortem examination is due on Wednesday.

"We want to reassure the public that this is being treated as an unexplained death it would appear to be an isolated incident," he said.
