Newton Poppleford water main work completed early

The replacement of an old water main, which closed off a Devon village to buses, cars and lorries, has been completed more than two months early.

The £500,000 South West Water project involved replacing about half a mile of water main in Newton Poppleford that was "prone to frequent bursts".

The work, which was due to take five months, was finished in 10 weeks.

SWW said the "magnificent" co-operation of local councils, businesses and residents had made it possible.
