Plymouth car park closed amid safety fears
A Plymouth multi-storey car park has been closed as a safety precaution after structural problems were found.
The city council said further investigations would be made to "fully assess the extent of the damage" at the Mayflower Street West car park.
The car park, built in 1965, has nearly 500 spaces.
It underwent major strengthening work in 2004 and regular inspections have been taking place to monitor its condition.
Signs are being put up on access roads to the car park directing drivers to alternative sites.
The council apologised for the inconvenience but said public safety had to be its "number one priority".
Work to establish the extent of the problems would be carried out as quickly as possible, the council said.
Officers are hoping to present long-term options and recommendations for the car park in December.
