School pays tribute to Alps death fall walker Fizz Ward

Tributes have been paid to a woman from Devon who fell to her death while on a walking holiday in the French Alps.

Felicity (Fizz) Ward, 52, was a teaching assistant at St Peter's Church of England Primary School in Tavistock.

The school said Mrs Ward was a much respected and valued member of staff who would be sorely missed.

The Foreign and Commonwealth Office said it was providing consular assistance to her family.

It said it had been notified of the British national's death on 14 August.

Mrs Ward is believed to have fallen more than 300ft (91m) after losing her footing near the top of the Col de Vaurze in the Isère region of eastern France.

The school's website said: "Our thoughts and prayers are with her family at this sad time."
