A Plymouth businessman's conviction for money laundering for a heroin gang has been quashed.

Leslie Palmer, 70, of Mannamead Road, was jailed for three years at Plymouth Crown Court in 2011 for conspiracy to convert criminal property.

Prosecutors had claimed Mr Palmer was connected to a ring running heroin from Manchester to Plymouth.

The Appeal Court in London upheld a challenge by Mr Palmer against the verdict.

He will not face a retrial.

A total of 30 people, including Mr Palmer's son Jon, 23, were convicted following the investigation.

Police seized drugs with an estimated street value of £1m and nearly £100,000 in cash in the 18-month operation.
