University students charged with Exeter kidnap

University students were among five men who appeared in court earlier charged with kidnapping a 23-year-old man in Exeter.

The alleged abduction happened at about 12:30 BST on Monday.

Exeter Magistrates Court heard Steven Miller was found bound and injured in woodland about 3.5 miles (5.21 km) from the city.

The defendants were remanded in custody to appear at Exeter Crown Court on 15 August.

William Pugh, 22, Claudio Diko, 19, Cedric Lushmina, 18, and Jerome James, 25, are all of Lebus Street, London.

The other defendant, George Watts, 21, of Ladysmith Lane, Heavitree is from Exeter.

The court heard Mr Miller was taken to hospital after being found at Huxham Brake, near Stoke Woods.

He was given treatment for a head wound.

Update March 13 2018: Pugh, James, Diko and Lushmina pleaded guilty to kidnapping on 8 November 2013 and Watts pleaded guilty to the same offence on 4 September 2014. All five men were sentenced at Exeter Crown Court on 10 October 2014. Diko and Lushmina were sentenced to four years in a young offenders institution. James was sentenced to four years in prison and Pugh was given a three-year prison sentence. Watts was sentenced to 12 months in prison suspended for two years.
