Exeter hospital visitor curbs after norovirus outbreak

One of Devon's main hospitals is restricting visitor numbers because of an outbreak of norovirus.

The Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital in Exeter has closed eight wards to new admissions because of the bug.

It is only allowing visitors on most of its wards for two half hour sessions a day, in an attempt to limit the spread of the contagious virus.

Symptoms of norovirus include the sudden onset of nausea, followed by vomiting and diarrhoea.

The restrictions apply to all wards except intensive care, children's and the maternity and neonatal.

Patients may receive only one visitor for 30 minutes twice a day from 14:30-15:00 GMT and from 18:00 GMT to 18:30 GMT.
