Devon farm boss fined over herdsman's fatal roof fall

A farm boss has been fined after a 65-year-old dairy herdsman died in a fall through a plastic skylight on a shed.

William Luscombe was repairing a roof when he fell 9ft on to concrete at Willsworthy Farm in North Tamerton, Devon, Exeter Crown Court was told.

He died from his injuries after the incident in October 2010.

Boss Roy Griffin, 60, from the farm, was fined £5,000 and ordered to pay £8,840 costs after admitting breaching health and safety regulations.

The Health and Safety Executive found there had been warnings on site of a fragile roof on the building.

But no equipment such as safety nets or suitable boarding was provided.
