A new police commander has been appointed to lead officers in Exeter, mid and east Devon.

Supt Chris Eastwood is to be responsible for policing an area including Axminster, Tiverton and Honiton, as well as Exeter city centre, Devon and Cornwall Police said.

He joined the force in 1986 and has also served in Plymouth and Cornwall.

His new post will see him working with 10 other senior officers, including a chief inspector and nine inspectors.

Supt Eastwood said violent offences, domestic abuse, the night-time economy and anti-social behaviour were among the policing challenges he wanted to tackle.
