Man in court on Westward Ho! stabbing charge

A north Devon businessman has appeared in court charged with the attempted murder of his estranged partner earlier this month.

Paul Vose is accused of stabbing 50-year-old Bridget Hearn at their home in Churchill Way, Northam on 3 March.

Exeter magistrates heard the victim suffered multiple stab wounds and a kidney had been removed by surgeons.

Mr Vose, 65, was remanded in custody and will appear at Exeter Crown Court on 29 March.

Magistrates were told that Mr Vose was injured after the alleged attack when his Audi TT car crashed into a wall in Atlantic Way at Westward Ho! in the early hours of 3 March.

He suffered serious injuries and was taken to Derriford Hospital in Plymouth. He was charged by Devon and Cornwall Police after being discharged.

Ms Hearn is being treated for her injuries at North Devon District Hospital.
