Team searches for loan sharks in Plymouth

Victims of loan sharks are being urged to come forward to help in a crackdown on illegal money lending in Plymouth.

A team of up to 30 specialist investigators could be deployed to the city if illegal lenders were found to be operating.

The city council has teamed up with the goverrnment to create the scheme.

In 2010, more than 310,000 UK households were using illegal money lenders, government figures suggested.

The council said illegal lenders primarily targeted urban areas and the most vulnerable.

A spokesman added: "Plymouth will not be immune from loan sharks and its people and economy could suffer as a result."
