Tiverton dumbbell attack accused remanded in custody

A Tiverton man accused of attacking a local man with a dumbbell has been remanded in custody in Devon.

Exeter Magistrates' Court heard the victim suffered severe head injuries in the assault at Tiverton's pannier market in the early hours of Saturday.

He is in an induced coma at Plymouth's Derriford Hospital, where his condition is described as critical, but stable.

Peter Milne, 32, of Newport Street, is accused of unlawfully and maliciously causing grievous bodily harm.

There was no application for bail and Mr Milne was remanded in custody for two weeks.
