Devon man jailed for sex with teenage girl

A man who had sex with a teenage girl in her home while her parents were asleep has been jailed for four years.

Christopher Johns, 29, of Barnstaple, Devon, climbed through a window on several nights and stayed in the 14-year-old's bedroom.

Johns admitted three charges of sexual activity with the child and asked for two sexual grooming offences with two other teenagers to be considered.

The judge at Exeter Crown Court called him a "manipulative, devious groomer".

High risk

Johns used text messages and social networking sites to talk to three teenagers.

Judge Phillip Wassall said Johns had bought the 14-year-old girl a ring and cuddly toy - branding it a "classic case of grooming".

The court was told Johns posed a high risk to teenage girls.

He was jailed for four years but with an extended eight year sentence on licence.

He was also placed on the Sex Offenders Register for life and banned from working with children.
