Crews rescue trapped man from Plymouth house fire

A man is in a serious condition in hospital after being rescued from a house fire in Plymouth.

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service was alerted to the fire at River View Lane in the Prince Rock area at about 0715 GMT.

Firefighters from Greenbank and Plymstock used breathing apparatus to rescue the trapped man.

He was taken to Derriford Hospital, where he is being treated in intensive care.

He has been sedated and his condition is described as very serious.

Crews took several hours to control the fire which has badly damaged the house.

An investigation has begun, but a spokesman from Devon and Cornwall Police said the cause of the fire has not yet been established.
