Tesco Crownhill store damaged by kitchen fire

Firefighters have tackled a fire at a major supermarket in Plymouth.

Crews were called to the fire at the Tesco store in Transit Way, Crownhill, at about 0100 GMT.

The fire, in the store's commercial kitchen, severely damaged the first floor and there was extensive water damage to the ground floor.

No-one was injured in the fire, which is thought to have begun in a refrigeration unit. The store is partially closed.

The food section of the store was not affected and a Tesco spokesman said that it was trading normally.

He said they hope to reopen the non-food section as soon as possible.
