Devon unemployment figure rises
Unemployment in Devon rose to 8,878 in December 2010 according to the Office for National Statistics (ONS).
The number of people out of work and claiming benefit was up from 8,660 in mid-November.
The total figure for December 2010 was 1.9% of the workforce, compared with 3.5% in the UK.
Analysts said the result was expected for the time of year and there was no real underlying change since the middle of 2010.
There are two unitary authorities that are not included in the county's figure.
In Torbay in December 4.1% of people were unemployed compared with 3.9% in November.
In Plymouth, unemployment fell in December to 3.4% compared with 3.5% in the previous month.
Analysts said unemployment could rise this year due to cuts in the public sector.
