Ice leads to spate of Devon road accidents

Ice is being blamed for a number of crashes in Devon including one in which a driver was injured after being trapped in her car.

Her car landed on its roof after overturning at Dartmoor Halfway Inn, Bickington, Newton Abbot.

The driver was taken to hospital, but her injuries are not thought to be serious.

A car also overturned on ice at Lamerton near Tavistock and the occupants were released uninjured.

In another incident at Callington Road, Tavistock, a car slid into a garden wall. There were no reports of serious injuries.

A fire service spokeswoman blamed ice forming on roads after sub-zero temperatures on Saturday night.

She said: "Roads have been treacherous around the county, but especially around Tavistock."

Forecasters say temperatures are expected to drop to -1C in the South West on Sunday night.
