Extension work starts at Exeter Oncology Centre

Building work has started at a Devon hospital to extend its oncology centre and improve services.

The Wonford site of the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital is undergoing a £6m investment.

The work will include the installation of a radiotherapy CT Simulator to capture three-dimensional images of cancer and improve treatment.

The waiting and reception areas within the oncology centre will also be improved.

Oncology centre manager Geraldine Jenner said: "It is important that we meet this demand for treatment, develop new technology and continue to offer our patients more choice, shorter waiting times and better specialist services."

The CT simulator is expected to be operational by the end of 2011.
