Cyclist, 16, injured in Barnstaple crash

A teenage cyclist has been seriously injured in an accident in north Devon.

The 16-year-old boy was riding his mountain bike down Old Sticklepath Hill, near Barnstaple, on Tuesday evening, when he lost control.

After crashing into a wall and railings, the local boy was thrown off his bike onto a road below, suffering serious head injuries.

He was taken to North Devon District Hospital, then transferred to Derriford Hospital in Plymouth by helicopter.

Devon and Cornwall Police have appealed to anyone who saw the accident, which happened at about 1645 GMT, to contact them.
