Battle of Britain Teignmouth student memorial unveiled

A memorial has been unveiled at a Devon school in honour of a former student who died in the Battle of Britain.

Students at Teignmouth Community College unveiled the memorial garden for Sergeant Gerald Henry Edworthy who died 70 years ago.

He attended Teignmouth Grammar School which is now the college.

During the unveiling, the RAF conducted a fly-past over the garden, which will be used as a place to teach local history.

Tony Gray, principal of the college said: "This has been an important day for Teignmouth Community College.

"This wonderful memorial provides a reflective spot for students and members of staff at the college to remember past members of staff and members of the community that have served both the college and the community."
