Chesterfield man charged over nightclub 'bottle attack'

A man has been charged with murdering a 23-year-old who was attacked outside a nightclub in Chesterfield.

Police believe Joseph Robotham was hit over the head with a bottle near Vibe, in Holywell Street, early on Saturday. He died in hospital late on Sunday.

Mr Robotham's family said in a tribute to him: "Joseph was our beautiful boy, he was cruelly taken away from us."

Connor Rose, 24, from Chesterfield, has appeared at Southern Derbyshire Magistrates' Court charged with murder.

He was also charged with possession of an offensive weapon and is due to appear at Derby Crown Court on Wednesday.

Mr Robotham's family added the 23-year-old was "larger than life and had experienced the world".

"We love him so much, he will always be missed and will we never recover," they said.

A 28-year-old man arrested on suspicion of affray has been released on bail pending further inquiries.

Derbyshire police appealed for any witnesses to contact them.
