UKIP councillor John Evans in election fraud probe
Police have been asked to investigate a newly elected councillor over a potential election fraud.
UKIP councillor John Evans was elected to Derby City Council in the Alvaston ward in May.
Mr Evans earlier appeared in Derby County Court following an appeal by the electoral registration officer as he was registered at two addresses.
He was listed as living in Coronation Avenue in Alvaston and also in Derby Road in Chellaston.
In documents released by the court his Alvaston address was said to be where his mother lived.
Mr Evans told the court he stayed there on occasion when his wife "threatened" him.
Returning officer Janie Berry said she would refer the case to Derbyshire Police.
QC Honourable Judge Nigel Godsmark said: "It is of considerable public interest that a city councillor has had his registration details deleted.
"The public have a right to know how how that came about."
UKIP had gained Alvaston from Labour during the local elections.
