The family of two women found dead at a house in Derbyshire have paid tribute to "two loving mothers".

The bodies of Julie Hill, 51, and her mother Rose, 75, were discovered at a house in Shirebrook at 22:10 GMT on Friday.

A family statement said they were "devastated" by the events.

Christopher Whelan, 20, of Dransfield Road, Sheffield, has been charged with their murders and appeared at Nottingham Crown Court via video link.

He will appear at the same court again on 12 April.

Mr Whelan was detained the day after the women's bodies were found by police and paramedics.

Officers said Julie Hill lived at the address in Station Road, while her mother lived in Sheffield.

The family statement said: "The families of Julie and Rose Hill are devastated by the events of the last few days.

"We have lost two loving mothers, who were in turn a sister, an aunt, a grandmother and dear friends to us all."

Police have said they are trying to find a dog missing from the property.
