A 20-year-old man who was arrested after the bodies of two women were discovered is still being questioned about their deaths, police have said.

The bodies were found at a house in Shirebrook, Derbyshire, at 22:10 GMT on Friday.

They have not been formally identified, but neighbours said a woman in her 50s lived at the house with an older woman.

Both deaths are being treated as suspicious, police said.

The arrested man, from Sheffield, remains in police custody.

Graham Wheatley, who lives two doors away from the house in Station Road where the bodies were found, said he used to bump into the women when he took his dog for a walk.

He said the younger of the two was "a very nice woman".

"It's horrendous really... It's one of those things you never dreamed you would see," he said.

Another neighbour, Brooke Storey, said she used to see the younger woman "pottering about".

"She's always been a quiet woman, kept herself to herself," said Ms Brooke.

"I just feel for the family and the woman because she was so quiet.

"I don't see how something like this could come about."
