An animal rescue centre has said a kitten found taped inside a box dumped in a skip is lucky to be alive.

Stig, as he has been named by staff from Cats Protection in Derby, was found by a passer-by in Alvaston, on Sunday.

Centre manager Helen Wood said he had suffered "appalling treatment and could have suffocated".

The centre is now appealing for anyone who can offer Stig "a loving home" to get in touch.
