Footage has been released to give people an insight into what Derby's new £28m velodrome will look like.

The 5000-seat arena will host high-level cycling events, as well as other sports including basketball and volleyball.

It will also be a concert venue. As well as the 250m cycle track and 12-court sports hall, there will be a gym, group exercise space and a cafe.

Work is expected to finish in November with it opening in January 2015.

Conservative councillor Matthew Holmes previously said the capacity of the multi-use venue should be increased to 7,500 to attract star performers like Robbie Williams.

However, Labour councillor Martin Repton said it was too late to change the capacity.

The £28m velodrome project is funded by Sport England and the Labour-controlled Derby City Council.
