Drug squad arrests 21 in 'organised crime' raids

Twenty-one people have been arrested following a police operation to break up a major drugs ring operating in Derby.

Police raided 15 premises in the city, Leicester and Wolverhampton.

Nineteen people were arrested on Wednesday - with two more arrested earlier.

The six women and 15 men were all arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to supply class A drugs. They range in age between 18 and 51.

The action was led by Operation Redshank, a specialist team of detectives set up to tackle gun, gang and drug crime.

Fourteen of those arrested remain in custody and are being questioned. The remainder have been bailed.

Det Insp Mark Knibbs, head of Operation Redshank, said: "The action we have taken this week is the culmination of six months of investigative work into this organised crime group.

"Drug dealing in Derby will not be tolerated and we will always take action against those who trade in illegal substances."
