The man credited with masterminding Team GB's 12 cycling medals at London 2012 is to be given the freedom of a Derbyshire borough.

Dave Brailsford, from Ilkeston, will receive the honour from Erewash Borough Council on Wednesday.

As well as coaching Team GB's Olympic winners, Brailsford also worked with Tour de France winner Bradley Wiggins.

Erewash Borough Council has only presented the award once before to the Mercian Regiment in 2007.

The authority said the honour, approved in October, was in recognition of the coach's "outstanding achievements".

The ceremony, which is not open to the public, will see Brailsford given a medal and a framed scroll by Erewash mayor Jennifer Hulls.
