Buxton drivers warned to keep off pedestrian zones

Drivers in a Derbyshire town are being warned to keep clear of pedestrian zones or face a fine.

Following a number of complaints from residents in Buxton, police have set up extra patrols around Spring Gardens.

All motorists are banned from the zone, with exceptions for loading and unloading vehicles and for street access.

Anyone caught breaking the law will be issued with a £60 fine, reduced to £30 if paid within two weeks.

Pc Tom Breakwell from Derbyshire Police said: "The Spring Gardens is an area set out for pedestrians only, to allow shoppers and other people to walk through the busy town centre without having to watch out for vehicles.

"Unfortunately we have had complaints about motorists breaching the rules and we will be taking action as it could put people's safety at risk."
