The conservation area around a historic village in the Derbyshire Peak District is to be extended.

High Peak Borough Council has extended Charlesworth conservation area to include Town Lane, Marple Road, Back Lane and nearby fields.

The decision follows a public consultation and an appraisal of the area's character and architecture.

Councillor Tony Kemp said: "The extension will help protect not only the village but also the landscape."

He added: "Our communities have developed to reflect the unique landscape of the Peak District and the natural resources found locally.

"Conservation Area status can help us secure external funding to assist in preserving our architectural heritage."
