Alcohol order granted for Eureka Park in Swadlincote
Police are to receive extra powers to tackle a rise in alcohol-related anti-social behaviour in a Derbyshire park.
Twenty-eight incidents have been reported in the past 12 months in Eureka Park in Swadlincote. Almost two-thirds have been connected to drinking.
Now South Derbyshire District Council has agreed to a Designated Public Place Order being imposed from 21 October.
The order gives police officers the power to confiscate alcohol. Failure to comply is an arrestable offence.
A police spokeswoman said the order would help officers deal with any issues they came across, defuse potential problems and reassure nearby residents.
