Centre plan considered to honour Derby painter

Plans are being considered to build a centre dedicated to the 18th century Derby artist Joseph Wright.

Some of his paintings are on display at Derby Museum and Art Gallery and the proposal is part of wider plans to get more works of art out of storage.

One option being considered by the city council is to build a centre at the Pickfords House museum.

Known as Wright of Derby, the artist is famous for work depicting scientific scenes and candle-lit subjects.

It a statement, the city council said it was "keen to celebrate Joseph Wright's many achievements and is exploring every avenue available to display his works to the public".
