Alert after Derby schoolgirl assaulted

Pupils and parents have been warned to be careful after a 14-year-old Derby girl was assaulted by a man on her way to school.

The girl was on a path in fields near West Park Community School, Spondon, at about 0800 BST when the man jumped from bushes and grabbed her arm.

She pulled free and ran to school to report the incident to teachers.

The man was described as white, in his 30s, about 6ft (1.83m) tall and wearing a big blue coat and blue jeans.

Officers said the girl was not injured but was shocked by the incident.

They added the assault appeared to be an isolated occurrence with no other reports of suspicious behaviour or offences having been received.

The school has issued an email to all pupils and sent letters to parents to make them aware of the incident.
