A man has been jailed for three years for sexually assaulting a girl under the age of 16.

Billy Sowerby committed 11 counts of sexual activity with a child and one count of sexual assault against a child which he had previously admitted.

The girl told Carlisle Crown Court his actions over a six-month period in 2015, had "messed up" her life.

The 26-year-old was handed a three-year sentence and placed on the sexual offender register indefinitely.

Sowerby of Croft Road, Brough, Cumbria was also handed a sexual harm prevention order for 10 years.
