Newton pedestrian death: Alan Schofield identified as victim

Police have identified a pedestrian who died being hit by a car in Cumbria.

Alan Schofield, 57, was struck by a Volkswagen Golf on the A6071 at Newtown, near Brampton, at 16:40 GMT on 24 November.

He died at the scene, while another pedestrian, a 22-year-old man, had minor injuries.

Mr Schofield's family described him as "positive and cheerful" and a "unique person, loved and respected by all who knew him".

The driver of the VW Golf and her seven-year-old passenger were taken to the Cumberland Infirmary where they were treated for minor injuries.

A Cumbria Police investigation into the incident is continuing.
