Pedestrian killed in Newton road accident

A pedestrian has died on a road in Cumbria.

The 57-year-old was struck by a Volkswagen Golf on the A6071 at Newtown, near Brampton, at 16:40 GMT on Thursday.

He died at the scene, while another pedestrian, a 22-year-old man, was slightly hurt.

The driver and her seven-year-old passenger were taken to the Cumberland Infirmary where they were treated for minor injuries.

Cumbria Police has appealed for witnesses.
