Penrith flat blaze: Ann Oates pronounced dead in hospital

A woman has died after a fire in a flat in Penrith.

Ann Oates, 45, was the only occupant of the property in the town's Brunswick Square, Cumbria police said.

The fire, which broke out at about 02:15 GMT is not being treated as suspicious, but an investigation into the cause is ongoing.

A force spokesman added that Mrs Oates was taken to the Cumberland Infirmary in a critical condition, but was pronounced dead a short time later.

The coroner has been informed.
