A man who raped a woman and sexually assaulted two children has been jailed for 15 years.

Tony Newlands, 31, of no fixed address, pleaded guilty at Carlisle Crown Court to a total of 15 offences.

The court was told he raped and sexually assaulted the woman twice, which had had a "devastating impact" on her.

Judge Peter Davies said Newlands was a "significant risk" and his crimes had "many aggravating features".

'Exploited victims'

He told him: "You have committed a series of serious and insidious offences."

Newlands admitted sexually assaulting a child, taking indecent photographs of a child and engaging in sexual activity in the presence of a child.

He committed the crimes in North Cumbria between June 2014 and October 2015.

Det Con David Hetherington, of Cumbria Police, said Newlands "exploited his victims and did not care for the consequences of his actions".

He was made subject to sex offender notification requirements and a sexual harm prevention order, both for an indefinite period.

He will also be barred from working with children and vulnerable adults.
