A missing prisoner with "a history of violence" should not be approached by members of the public, police have warned.

Dean Walker was last seen in the grounds of HMP Haverigg in Cumbria on Friday morning.

The 32-year-old, from Manchester, was serving a term for robbery.

Cumbria Police said it was working closely with the prison and had a deployed a number of specialist resources to find him.

HMP Haverigg is a Category C closed prison. It houses offenders who cannot be trusted in open conditions but who are deemed unlikely to try to escape.

Ch Insp Matt Kennerley said: "Walker has a history of violence and therefore I would urge members of the public not to approach him, but to call the police as soon as possible."
