Workington woman denies Storm Desmond fraud charges

A woman has denied making fraudulent claims for aid in the aftermath of Storm Desmond flooding in Cumbria.

Nicola Moore, 32, from Windsor Road, Workington, is accused of applying for cash from a recovery fund to replace damaged furniture she never owned.

She is also said to have made a claim for other furniture for which she had already been compensated.

She pleaded not guilty to two counts of fraud at Carlisle Crown Court and the case was adjourned until November.

Ms Moore was remanded on bail.

Thousands of properties in the north of England were damaged during the December storms.
