Staveley woman, 81, killed in head-on A591 crash

A woman has died following a head-on collision in Cumbria.

The 81-year-old, of Staveley, was driving a Honda Jazz that collided with a Vauxhall Astra on the A591 at Ings, between Kendal and Windermere, at 12:10 BST on Saturday.

The road was closed for five hours while emergency services and accident investigators attended the scene.

A 91-year-old male passenger in the Astra, from Bolton-le-Sands, Lancashire, is in a critical condition.

He was taken to the Royal Preston Hospital along with the car's 56-year-old driver, whose condition is described as serious but stable.
