Further details of the Cumbria stage of the Tour of Britain have been released, enabling potential spectators to plan ahead and choose their vantage points.

On 5 September, riders will assemble in Carlisle and set off at 11:10 BST from outside the Old Town Hall.

The 118 mile (190km) route ends in Kendal, with the first riders expected to arrive from 15:20 BST.

It will take in many places badly hit by the winter's storms, showing the area is "open for business".

These include Cockermouth town centre, the temporary bridge at Pooley Bridge, and a rebuilt section of the A591 at Dunmail Raise, which reopened in May following major repairs.

Colin Glover, leader of Carlisle City Council, said: "We're thrilled to be part of an exciting event that attracts thousands of spectators.

"Carlisle and other parts of Cumbria were badly affected by the December storms and the Tour of Britain will send a clear message that 'Cumbria is open for business' and provide a boost to hard hit businesses and communities across the county."
