Barrow-in-Furness arrests on suspicion of slavery

Four men have been arrested on suspicion of offences under the Modern Day Slavery Act.

It follows a report on 31 March by a 68-year-old woman that she had been assaulted.

The men, aged between 30 and 70, and from Barrow-in-Furness, have now been bailed pending further inquiries.

Cumbria Police said initial inquires at a post office on Oxford Street in the town but found no connection to the alleged offences or link with suspects.

A force spokesman said: "Offences of this nature are a rare occurrence and we can reassure the public that they are being investigated diligently and professionally by a dedicated team in Barrow CID."
