A major bridge in Cumbria which suffered structural damage during the winter storms is due to reopen.

Eamont Bridge on the A6 near Penrith has been closed since December after floodwater washed away masonry and undermined the structure of the Grade I-listed building.

Repairs, which involved replacing grout in the stonework with concrete, have now been completed.

Cumbria County Council said the bridge will reopen at 21:00 GMT.

The same storm washed away the 300-year-old Pooley Bridge, also over the River Eamont.

A £300,000 temporary replacement structure was constructed and opened on Sunday, ahead of schedule and in time for the Easter weekend.
