Man rescued after falling 100ft from Lake District hill

A man has been airlifted to hospital after falling almost 100ft (30m) down a hill in the Lake District.

The 68-year-old man tumbled down the Borrowdale Valley at about 16:45 GMT on Wednesday and was knocked unconscious.

It is thought he remained there for nearly two hours before managing to alert passers-by. He sustained serious head, chest and abdomen injuries.

He was taken to hospital by the Great North Air Ambulance Service. He remains in a serious but stable condition.
