Residents of a Cumbrian town had to keep their windows shut for almost six hours amid asbestos fears after a fire broke out at a barn.

Firefighters were called to the barn in Workington just before 05:30 GMT and police were forced to close the A66 to Stainburn because of smoke.

Public Health England North West warned about asbestos but the fire was brought under control shortly after 11:00.

Firefighters said the cause is being probed.
