Burglar Jamie Wilson jailed for Carlisle break-in

An elderly man was left so distressed by a burglary that he moved into a care home, a court has heard.

Jamie Wilson, 26, smashed his way into the 88-year-old man's Belle Vue house in Carlisle during the summer while the victim was in hospital.

The city's crown court heard Wilson fled with a tin containing the man's savings but he left blood in a bedroom.

Wilson, of Dowbeck Road, Carlisle, was jailed for 16 months by Judge Peter Hughes QC after admitting burglary.

The judge said Wilson had deliberately targeted the elderly man.
