Carlisle 'sneezing women' attacker sought by police

A man who apparently assaulted two women after they sneezed in the street in Carlisle is being sought by police.

An 82-year-old who had just sneezed was struck in the head by a man in Scotch Street at 11:30 GMT on Tuesday.

It followed a report of another woman being assaulted in a similar way in the area on Monday.

The offender is described as being in his mid to late 50s, and was wearing a tweed jacket. Anyone with information is asked to contact Cumbria Police.

Sgt Gill Cherry from said: "We are treating these two reported incidents as linked, and are appealing to the local community to help trace the man responsible.

"It is very unusual behaviour, and will have left his victims feeling confused and upset."
