Kendal woman, 76, dies in A6 crash

A 76-year-old woman has died in a crash in north Cumbria.

Carole Maltby was a passenger in a Suzuki Swift which was on the A6, between Kendal and Penrith, near the junction of the Shap Wells Hotel.

Ms Maltby, of High Sparrowmire, Hallgarth, Kendal, died at the scene, at about 09:00 GMT.

The driver, a 51-year-old woman also from the Kendal area, was treated for minor injuries after being taken to Royal Preston Hospital.

Police said no other vehicles were involved.
